The Art of Listening and Asking Thoughtful Questions
We had an incredible opportunity today to learn from Tom Walsh, WCCEO Board Vice President, who stopped by to share his entrepreneurial journey with our kids!
Listening to an entrepreneur like Tom is more than just hearing their words—it's about engaging, understanding, and being curious. Even if you don't know everything about their field, you can still ask specific, meaningful questions. Here’s how:
1. **Stay Curious**: Don't worry about knowing everything. Focus on what sparks your interest and ask about that. Entrepreneurs love sharing their passion!
2. **Listen Actively**: Pay attention to their stories and insights. Note down key points or terms that stand out to you. This shows you're engaged and eager to learn.
3. **Ask Open-Ended Questions**: Instead of "yes" or "no" questions, ask questions like "What inspired you to start your business?" or "What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?" These questions lead to deeper conversations.
4. **Connect with Their Experience**: Relate their experiences to what you know or have learned. For example, "You mentioned facing challenges in the beginning. How did you stay motivated during tough times?"
